The New Directors’ Showcase, Cannes 2013 featuring Professor Richard Dawkins.


The Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors Showcase "Just For Hits" theme, explores the unprecedented cultural impact the internet has had on how we create and share, and the creativity of the hive mind. Biologist (and father of the word meme) Professor Richard Dawkins gave a speech explaining memetics from his cult best selling book “The Selfish Gene”.

When we first brought the idea to him about the term “internet meme”, used to express a creative idea that evolves and mutates, being a hijacking of his original biological term in his book, the Professor couldn’t resist jumping on board for the project to give further insight into both.

We then turned his speech into its own psychedelic internet madness—full throttle, auto-tuned, audiovisual overload featuring footage of an owl lasering the disembodied head of the famed evolutionary biologist, and ending with him playing an EWI, an electric wind instrument, live on stage.

















A suite of introduction titles created for all the Directors.
